Located within 35 km (21.7 miles) from the nearest town, Moshatagh is one of the most remote villages in northern Artsakh. It is one of the fastest growing villages in liberated Kashatagh, the border region that connects Artsakh to Armenia. Moshatagh also serves as a community center for several surrounding villages.
In the winter, when many roads and passageways are snowed in and closed, the people of these villages often find themselves isolated, with no access to services and care available elsewhere. As a result, common diseases often remain untreated and emergencies such as snakebites, accidents and even childbirths can result in casualties. The lack of accessible care has made life in these villages quite unsafe.
This is why it is vital for these villages to have quality healthcare provided locally.
Until now, the sole medical facility of Moshatagh was contained to a few tiny rooms in the local school building. In fact, this was the only facility serving 4 distant villages, with a total population of 295 (90 households). The clinic is not only too small to accommodate the healthcare needs of the district, but it is also in a poor condition — the building requires urgent improvement.

Last week, we started construction works in Moshatagh with an aim of transforming these small rooms into a well-functioning and fully renovated village clinic. As with all construction works carried out by the Tufenkian Foundation, the renovation and expansion efforts are entrusted to local workers from Kashatagh.

The renovation and expansion of this clinic is a part of our larger initiative to improve healthcare in liberated Kashatagh. Last year we renovated a clinic in Ishkhanadzor. Built by the Tufenkian Foundation in 2005, the clinic serves a cluster of 16 remote villages. We have also built and equipped other, smaller clinics – notably those in Msheni and Aghavnatun.
